It wasn’t long until we crossed over into Kansas. The day was beautiful but the ponds we saw were all dry. There was very little green on the ground. The trees looked so stressed. It is sad and I know the ranchers and farmers are feeling the effects.
We got off Hwy 54 to head to the Hopalong Cassidy Museum. We drove past the turnoff at first. We had found the location on our atlas and it also mentioned Prairie Rose with the museum. We saw a sign that mentioned a Prairie Rose Chuckwagon Dinner. We decided to check it out and followed the signs. It was a way off the highway.
We pulled in under an arch and I was a bit scared that we wouldn’t fit. Denny had no problem and drove on through. I didn’t even have to get out of the truck to make sure we were ok.
Sadly, the Hopalong Museum was closed about two years ago. They do have a big screen cowboy display now and even though a wedding was taking place on the grounds the owner allowed us into the exhibit area. They have chuckwagon dinners, with entertainment, horse pulled wagon rides and use the big screen cowboy display room to show Hopalong Cassidy movies before dinner is served.
There is a basic campground on the grounds and we decided to stay. The cost is $20 per night and we paid for two nights. We also decided to try the chuckwagon dinner.
We pulled our rig into the campground by taking a left around trigger.
The campground is electric only but we filled the tanks with water available across the road from Trigger and we had our choice of the 8 sites. The campground was not built for larger rigs like ours but with no one else we could take up a bit more space.
We chose our site and set up, settling in for a quiet evening. We lost our electricity about 7:00 and got the owner to check. It turns out it was our surge protector to that will have to be replaced when we get near a Camping World.
Tomorrow we plan to drive the 25 minutes to Wichita and Old Cowtown Museum. Some cowboy adventures coming for tomorrow.
