Scary blow out

We left John’s after having a wonderful time at the RV-Dreams Rally in Kerrville.  We were driving through Palestine, TX and discussing how far we wanted to drive when all of a sudden, it felt like a bomb went off.  The right front tire of the truck blew.  Well, it exploded.  I saw black things flying by and was praying that nothing hit the rig. 
Denny’s good driving skills came into play and he got us stopped and off the road.  We were on a curve and I was grateful that the tire was on the passenger side.  Denny thought he might have to unhook the trailer but he put the legs down and took the pressure off the truck. 
Using the extra jacks we carry he was able to get the tire changed.  We did have two people stop and asked if they could help.  The first gentleman, Denny thanked him but said no.  The second two gentlemen worked on the railroad and came walking up.  Denny had the spare tire on the truck and was tightening the lug nuts.  They were nice enough to offer to put the ruined tire into the bed of the truck.  Denny was grateful for that gesture.  We thanked them for their help and finished changing the tire.
I do have to tell everyone that Denny asked me to get the step stool he uses to reach inside the bed of the truck.  He wanted to use it to sit on while he tightened the lug nuts.  He fell off it, backwards, twice.  Of course, the stool was on the side of a ditch so there was an incline.  We laughed.  It was good to have the stress relief. 
We drove the additional 60 miles to Carthage as we wanted and got set up at the Carthage RV Park.  We stayed there on our way to Kerrville.  The Texas Country Music Hall of Fame is there as well as a tribute to Jim Reeves.  We also enjoyed eating at the Brac’s Buffet. 
Denny showered and we drove to a Auto Zone to purchase a replacement bulb for the turn signal that got broke by the flying steel and rubber from the blow out.  We asked about a tire place and he suggested one.  We ate at Brac’s then headed to the tire store.  They had a full set of tires for us and we scheduled them to be installed the following morning.
We had the tires installed and were on our way to Minden, LA to visit our granddaughter.  We stay at the Kissatchie National Forest, Caney Lakes Area.  They have a nice campground with trees.  The sites are blacktop and level.  We are golden age pass holders so the cost is only $9.50 per night.  Our friends Kenneth and Margaret are camp hosts there so it is an added bonus to be able to visit with friends.
