Yesterday started out warm and wonderful. We went to the office to tell the park manager what we had done and to ask for more specific directions for the weekend jaunt to 700 Springs Ranch tour.
While there Buddy told us that building 11 would be needed to house a husband and wife woodworking team at the Western Heritage Days. Carolyn and I also learned that there would be tours inside some of the buildings we had cleaned so she wanted to go through them one more time to make sure we hadn’t missed anything. We didn’t realize people would actually be going through the buildings.
We came home for lunch and a cold front came through. The temperature dropped about 30 degrees in one hour. We decided to wait until a bit warmer day to put our hands in water again.
The cold front brought rain, thunder and lightening. About 10:30 am this morning we lost electricity. Thank goodness for our little Honda 2000 generator and propane. The temperature didn’t go above 37 degrees today and the furnace did a good job keeping us warm.
The four of us decided to drive the 25 miles into Menard for lunch, hoping the electricity would be back when we got back. Well, that wasn’t to be.
We read a bit in the afternoon then went over to Carolyn and Roger’s Hitch Hiker for coffee and some pumpkin bars that I had made. We visited for a while. Denny showed them his new book, “The Pictoral History of the Lone Ranger”. He has wanted that book since the 1980’s. We found in on Amazon and bought it. It is so much fun to look at.
We played a game of Aggravation and then came back home for dinner at about 6:30. We were eating when Denny noticed Roger’s rope lights had come on. So at 7:30 pm we were back in business and I turned our fireplace on to help the furnace.
We had a great day and if the weather holds we’ll be heading to the ranch tomorrow. One more new adventure.
